NOT A DOODLE: Back to the portraits

September 29, 2016

Back to portrait mode for the January 2017 issue of In Touch magazine. I know I’ve said it before, but I absolutely LOVE the textures achieved with watercolor washes and the way their organic, mottled appearance contrasts with the dark lines and stippling of the pen and ink drawing.

No dialogue in a speech bubble this time… but does there really need to be?

Never….NEVER… sneak up behind a doodle.

A Self-Assigned Doodle Project with a Purpose: Variations on “What?”

September 20, 2016

I’ve never actually done this, so you’re witnessing awkward doodling history here. I have decided to assign myself the task of filling up a small notebook with doodles all based around a single central theme.

I chose “what?”.

So I’m going to make myself rein in the random a bit (although not too much) and focus on that one word as my initial inspiration. I’ll be posting them as I go. Some may be obvious, and some you might have to look at for a moment to see the tie-in. But it’ll be there…. honest.

Once the notebook is filled, I’m looking into ways to auction off the finished piece, with the proceeds going towards building a fund to buy our church a new passenger van. (Believe me, they need it. The one we have now is held together with dirt and prayer!) I know it won’t bring in a lot, but- hey- it’s a start.

And I want you guys to keep me honest. If you notice I haven’t posted at least one a week, you have my permission to give me tons of grief.

Sooo…..off we go!

MEETING DOODLES: Seerusly?

I’m especially liking the little dark creatures at the bottom center of the second doodle page. They just look so confused about where they are.

CONFERENCE DOODLE: Circles, Grapevines, and a Texas-sized “Yeeeehaw!!!”

Attending the Circles Conference in Grapevine, Texas, for work, and they gave me a doodle pad.

A. Doodle. Pad.

Let the sheer joy and beauty of that statement sink in, fellow doodlers.
