RANDOM NON-DOODLE: Captain DandyHat!

September 8, 2017

CaptainDandyHat_SMALL

Although he had the desire and (most definitely) the wardrobe needed to be a successful superhero, Captain DandyHat (aka Chester Wiggums) was hampered by the glaring fact that his only discernible superpowers were his uncanny knack for remembering old 1950s advertising jingles, and his ability to drink an entire 48 ounce Slushee™ in seven seconds without experiencing brain freeze. Thus, his crimefighting career was rather short and uneventful.

These are the first three in a fun little collection of illustrations I’m doing for a web-exclusive series on the In Touch website. All quick, loose, and washy; they’re a blast to work on.

MEETING DOODLE: They’re impatient little cusses sometimes

Apparently I was taking too long to doodle him. I told him he had better lighten up or I was going to erase that scowl right of his face, but he just kept on. As you can see, he won the standoff.

To be honest, I’m a little intimidated by him.

NOT A DOODLE: T-Rex in a Teryx!

TERYX PRO PATCH small

One of my latest pieces. This was done for the Kawasaki corporation to be used on technical training collateral materials relating to their awesome Teryx side-by-side all-terrain vehicles.

The bad thing about doing this piece is- now I want to drive one of these suckers!

Only, without the T-rex. Off-road driving is already challenging enough; I can’t imagine attempting it while a large predator is trying to eat your head.

MEETING DOODLE: Work with what you have, and no throwing sardines!

penguin skateboarding SMALL

Sorry for the garish paper color, but ya gotta work with what you’re given. Like this penguin, for instance. He wanted me to draw him on a jet ski, but I told him we were fresh out of those and could only put him on a skateboard. I informed him we would have a shipment of jet skis coming in next month, but he was all in a hurry to get doodled so he had to settle for a skateboard. You could tell he wanted to complain about it, but he kept his cool and took it like a man.

Er… I mean, penguin.

At least, that’s how I assume it would look if you “took it like a penguin”. I could be way off base. Taking it like a penguin may actually involve temper tantrums and the hurling of sardines at the source of your disgruntlement. If that’s the case, then he didn’t take it like a penguin, but, in fact, took it like some much calmer bird that is not known for diva-like behavior.

The lesson here is- it’s dangerous to withhold sugary treats from a Nordic, spear-wielding amphibian.
