I realize I’ve been very lax about posting things here on my blog lately, so I’m going to try to remedy that. Here’s the latest portraits I did for the upcoming July 2018 issue of In Touch Magazine.

Every month, I’ve been tasked with illustrating a question mark for an online article series entitled “The Ministry of Asking Questions”. It’s been a fun challenge approaching the same symbol from different angles each time.

An illustration for a digital article to be published in September on the In Touch Ministries site.

It’s a bird with the head of a chicken, and the body of a duck. Wearing a bow tie.

Sometimes, I still can’t believe I get to do this for a living, folks. I am truly blessed.

NOT A DOODLE:’Nother Portrait, or Perfect Imperfections

December 14, 2016

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not implying my painting is perfect. In fact, I think that part of the joy of painting is knowing you will NEVER be perfect, but pursuing perfection anyway.

No, the title of this post refers to the beauty of watercolor washes. No crisp, clean lines. No smooth, solid fields of color. There are always blemishes. Always unpredictable interactions with the paper. Always imperfections.

And that makes it perfect.

(By the way, this one is for the March-April 2017 issue of In Touch magazine.)
