Big Baby

big-baby

Okay, for all my copy editor friends and grammarians out there, I have a question. Would the proper form be:

1. “Wow, that’s a freakin’ big ol’ danged baby!” or

2. “Wow, that’s a big ol’ freakin’ danged baby!” or

3. “Wow, that’s a freakin’ danged big ol’ baby!”?

I need to know, in case I ever do actually encounter a gargantuan drooling naked infant and need to properly express my amazement. Because I feel that, even in times of great mental stress, it is important to adhere to the rules of grammar.

    all of the above…

  2. Steve Lindsey Says:

I hope no one was drooling and naked in your Monday morning meeting (except you, of course! You’re that way almost every week!)

Actually, I’ve decided to forgo my usual drooling and focus my creative energies on exotic bird calls. So, if you’re ever in a meeting and think you just heard the territorial cry of the Great Western Oxslapper….that was me. And I was probably naked.

Actually, I think in this instance you would want to say a “danged freakin’ big ol’ baby.” Unless what you really mean is a “freakin’ big, danged ol’ baby.” All depends on what modifies what….

My niece, 25, would say, “Dude, that’s a freakin’ huge baby!”

Beeveedee beat me to it. I was going to suggest “danged freakin’ big ol’ baby.” My 13-year-old son, however, votes for your #2 suggestion.
