Try as I might, sometimes it seems almost impossible to maintain harmony among the doodles in my head.

Here are the next three cover illustrations for the Duck Commander kids’ book series I posted about earlier. These will be placed in the same cover format as the first “outhouse time machine” image. I can’t wait to see these in print!

MEETING DOODLE: Work with what you have, and no throwing sardines!

Sorry for the garish paper color, but ya gotta work with what you’re given. Like this penguin, for instance. He wanted me to draw him on a jet ski, but I told him we were fresh out of those and could only put him on a skateboard. I informed him we would have a shipment of jet skis coming in next month, but he was all in a hurry to get doodled so he had to settle for a skateboard. You could tell he wanted to complain about it, but he kept his cool and took it like a man.

Er… I mean, penguin.

At least, that’s how I assume it would look if you “took it like a penguin”. I could be way off base. Taking it like a penguin may actually involve temper tantrums and the hurling of sardines at the source of your disgruntlement. If that’s the case, then he didn’t take it like a penguin, but, in fact, took it like some much calmer bird that is not known for diva-like behavior.

So I’m just sitting there, minding my own business, doodling away in a meeting, when THIS guy jumps out of my pen!

Here is the first cover in a series of books I’m illustrating for the good folks over at Tyndale House Publishing. They have teamed up with the “Duck Dynasty” family to publish four fictional adventure stories aimed at young readers. I’ll be providing covers as well as interior illustrations.

These have been an absolute blast to work on, and I don’t think I’ve ever worked with a nicer group of people.

Here’s a link to the press release:

(Incidentally, this is the first time EVER I have used the tag “outhouses” for a blog post, so it’s sort of like you are witnessing history here!)
